My grace is sufficient for you

Galatians 2:17-3:9 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible

But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Far from it! ¹⁸ For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I prove myself to be a wrongdoer. ¹⁹ For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live for God. ²⁰ I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. ²¹ I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”

3 You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? ² This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? ³ Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? ⁴ Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? ⁵ So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

⁶ Just as Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. ⁷ Therefore, recognize that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. ⁸ The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.” ⁹ So then, those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.

In today’s text it says: If while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Far from it! For if I rebuild what I have once destroyed, I prove myself to be a wrongdoer. For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.”   In 2 Corinthians 12:9 God says: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”  If we fall after receiving God’s grace, rebuilding the sin we knew, it is not the fault of grace. The one who sins is the wrongdoer. God’s grace is sufficient for our every weakness. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says: No temptation has overtaken you except something common to mankind; and God is faithful, so He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. The way of escape is given to us in Hebrews 4:15-16: We do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.  Jesus is the one who was both tempted in all things and overcame them. Drawing closer to Him is our way out. In Him and through Him we obtain mercy and God’s all sufficient grace for every need.

Colossians 3:17: Whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. In doing it unto the Lord, we do not take pride in what we have done, but rather give thanks to God. The text says:  Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?  In John 14:12-14 Jesus says: “Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I am going to the Father. And whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” Even if we work miracles, it is only by the power of the Spirit. It is only as a result of God’s all sufficient grace working in us and through us. Whatever we do for the Lord, it is actually Jesus who is doing it.
