Let Your favor, Lord, be upon us
Psalm 33 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible
Sing for joy in the Lord, you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright.
2 Give thanks
to the Lord with the lyre;
Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings.
3 Sing to Him a new song;
Play skillfully with a shout of joy.
4 For
the word of the Lord is right,
And all His work is done in faithfulness.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And by the breath of His mouth all their lights.
7 He gathers the waters of the
sea together as a heap;
He puts the depths in storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
9 For He
spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood firm.
10 The Lord nullifies the plan of nations;
He frustrates the plans of peoples.
11 The plan
of the Lord stands forever,
The plans of His heart from generation to generation.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen for His own inheritance.
13 The Lord looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of mankind;
14 From His dwelling place He looks out
On all the inhabitants of the earth,
15 He who fashions the hearts of them all,
He who understands all their works.
16 The king is not saved by a mighty army;
A warrior is not rescued by great
strength.
17 A horse is a false hope for victory;
Nor does it rescue anyone by its great strength.
18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those
who fear Him,
On those who wait for His faithfulness,
19 To rescue their soul from death
And to keep them alive in famine.
20 Our soul waits for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
21 For our heart rejoices in Him,
Because we trust in His holy name.
22 Let Your favor, Lord, be upon us,
Just as we
have waited for You.
In Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus says: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” The psalmist says: Sing for joy in the Lord, you righteous ones; Praise is becoming to the upright. Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. That we are exhorted to both play skillfully and to sing a new song, is that we are to worship God both in our understanding and in the Spirit, with all of our heart, soul and mind. In John 4:23-24 Jesus says: “The hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”Again, it is both with our spirit, beyond our understanding and in truth with our willfull acknowledgement of His majesty and sovereignty.
The psalmist
says: For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. By the word
of the Lord the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their lights. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He puts the depths in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood firm. The Lord nullifies the plan of nations; He frustrates the plans of peoples. The plan of the Lord stands
forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people He has chosen for His own inheritance. When the psalmist says, God spoke and it was done he is referring to
creation. Genesis 1 says God spoke and it was. His plans though are for more than just to speak the world into existence. God had and has a plan for His people, His inheritance. On the cross Jesus spoke and that plan was done. In Luke 23:34 Jesus said: “Father, forgive
them, for they do not know what they do.”In John 19:30 He said: “It is finished!” God’s plan to redeem and restore us from the fall of sin, to save us from death and give us eternal life
was done, and His plan stands forever, from generation to generation. His work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice.
The psalmist says: The Lord looks

A warrior is not rescued by great strength. A horse is a false hope for victory; Nor does it rescue anyone by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who wait
for His faithfulness, To rescue their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. Let Your
favor, Lord, be upon us, Just as we have waited for You.
Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit, in these days of darkness and difficulty I wait for You. I wait trusting in Your plan. I know that even in these times Your goodness fills the earth. I love You with my whole heart, soul and mind, and I worship You in Spirit and truth. Amen.
