Their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God

Romans 2:25-3:8 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible

For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a violator of the Law, your circumcision has turned into uncircumcision. ²⁶ So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will his uncircumcision not be regarded as circumcision? ²⁷ And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a violator of the Law? ²⁸ For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. ²⁹ But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from people, but from God.

3 Then what advantage does the Jew have? Or what is the benefit of circumcision? ² Great in every respect. First, that they were entrusted with the actual words of God. ³ What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? ⁴ Far from it! Rather, God must prove to be true, though every person be found a liar, as it is written:

“So that You are justified in Your words, And prevail when You are judged.”

⁵ But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say? The God who inflicts wrath is not unrighteous, is He? (I am speaking from a human viewpoint.) ⁶ Far from it! For otherwise, how will God judge the world? ⁷ But if through my lie the truth of God abounded to His glory, why am I also still being judged as a sinner? ⁸ And why not say (just as we are slanderously reported and as some claim that we say), “Let’s do evil that good may come of it”? Their condemnation is deserved.

In John 3:16 Jesus says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” In Mark 16: 15-16 Jesus says: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”  In today’s text it says: What then? If some did not believe, their unbelief will not nullify the faithfulness of God, will it? Far from it! Rather, God must prove to be true, though every person be found a liar. The fact that some choose not to believe does not change, detract from, or eliminate God’s faithfulness. Rather, in John 3:17-21 Jesus says: “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him. The one who believes in Him is not judged; the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, so that his deeds will not be exposed. But the one who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed as having been performed in God.” It is those who choose not to believe who choose judgment, not God.  God is faithful and just. He will do what He says. In Isaiah 55:10-11 He says: As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it produce and sprout, And providing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it. In Deuteronomy 30:15-20 God says: “See, I have placed before you today life and happiness, and death and adversity, in that I am commanding you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, so that you may live and become numerous, and that the Lord your God may bless you... But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but allow yourself to be led astray and you worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you will certainly perish... I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have placed before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding close to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days.”

We may live in a cancel culture which believes it can cancel whatever disagrees with it. Our culture cannot cancel God, His word or His faithfulness to do what He says He will do. He gives us a choice and He will be faithful to allow us to have what we choose, light or darkness, good or evil, life or death; the blessing or the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding close to Him.

Thank You heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit for Your faithfulness. I choose light and life. I choose good over evil. I choose to believe in Christ the Son of God so that I may know the blessings of Your faithfulness. Amen.
