Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Psalm 145 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible
I will exalt You, my God, the King,
And
I will bless Your name forever and ever.
2 Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and
ever.
3 Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised;
And
His greatness is unsearchable.
4 One generation will praise Your works to another,
And will declare Your mighty acts.
5 On the glorious splendor of Your majesty
And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.
6 People will speak of the power of Your awesome acts,
And I will tell of Your greatness.
7 They
will burst forth in speaking of Your abundant goodness,
And will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.
8 The Lord is gracious and compassionate;
Slow to anger and great in mercy.
9 The Lord is good to all,
And His mercies
are over all His works.
10 All Your works will give thanks to You, Lord,
And Your godly ones will bless You.
11 They will speak of the glory of Your kingdom,
And talk of
Your might,
12 To make known to the sons of mankind Your mighty acts,
And the glory of the majesty of Your
kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
And Your dominion endures throughout all generations.
[The Lord is
faithful in His words,
And holy in all His works.
14 The Lord supports all who fall,
And raises up all who are bowed down.
15 The
eyes of all look to You,
And You give them their food in due time.
16 You open Your hand
And satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17 The Lord is righteous in all His ways,
And kind in all His works.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on Him,
To all who call on Him in truth.
19 He
will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He will also hear their cry for help and save them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love Him,
But He will destroy all the wicked.
21 My mouth
will speak the praise of the Lord,
And all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever.
The psalmist says: I will exalt You, my God, the King, And I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever. It is one thing for us to bless and praise the name of God as the psalmist declares. It is another matter the to truly bless God every day. To bless and praise His name is a matter of what we say. To bless God is a matter of what we do every day. James 1:21-22 says: Ridding yourselves of all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves. To bless God every day, we need to receive His word and do what it says. If we verbally bless and praise God, but act in ways that are opposed to Him and His word, we deceive ourselves. In Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus says: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’”
The psalmist says: Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable. One generation will praise Your works to another, And will declare Your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of Your majesty And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate. People will speak of the power of Your awesome acts, And I will tell of Your greatness. They will burst forth in speaking of Your abundant goodness, And will shout joyfully of Your righteousness. We have failed to continue to do what the psalmist says, to praise God works and declare His mighty acts to the next generation. We have failed to speak of the power of His awesome acts and of His greatness. The result is that we have allowed the world to teach and form the beliefs and opinions of our children. In a nation which was founded on Biblical principles in every aspect of its fiber, we have removed God from education and government, our workplaces and from many of our homes. Righteousness is no longer shouted about joyfully, but rather is shouted at angrily. Angry mobs protest and destroy what is good in favor of what is unrighteous.
The psalmist says: The Lord is gracious and compassionate; Slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, And His mercies are over all His works. All Your works will give thanks to You, Lord, And Your godly ones will bless You. They will speak of the glory of Your kingdom, And talk of Your might, To make known to the sons of mankind Your mighty acts, And the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And Your dominion endures throughout all generations. The Lord is faithful in His words, And holy in all His works. God is gracious and compassionate. His mercy extends even to those who do not know Him. 2 Peter 3:9 says: The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance. God’s greatest mercy and grace is that He has not yet returned, giving time for all to come to repentance. In 2 Chronicle 7:14 God says: If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. We, those who are called by His name, need to humble ourselves and pray. We need to truly begin again to bless God every day. We need to speak of the glory of His kingdom, And talk of His might, To make known to the sons of mankind His mighty acts, And the glory of the majesty of His kingdom, His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
The Lord is righteous in all His ways, And kind in all His works. The Lord is near to all who call on Him, To all who call on Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry for help and save them. The Lord watches over all who love Him, But He will destroy all the wicked. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord, And all flesh will bless His holy name forever and ever. Amen. At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.
