The heavens tell of the glory of God

Psalm 19 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible

The heavens tell of the glory of God;
And their expanse declares the work of His hands.
Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
Their line has gone out into all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.
In them He has placed a tent for the sun,
Which is like a groom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices like a strong person to run his course.
Its rising is from one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much pure gold;
Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, Your servant is warned by them;
In keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults.
13 Also keep Your servant back from presumptuous sins;
Let them not rule over me;
Then I will be innocent,
And I will be blameless of great wrongdoing.
14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.

The psalmist says:  The heavens tell of the glory of God; And their expanse declares the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out into all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, Which is like a groom coming out of his chamber; It rejoices like a strong person to run his course. Its rising is from one end of the heavens, And its circuit to the other end of them; And there is nothing hidden from its heat.  Some people question the accuracy of the Bible and even consider it foolish because of the lack of scientific understanding of the human authors. It’s true that the psalmist didn’t fully understand the relationship of the earth and sun, that rather than the sun moving, it is the earth that revolves around the sun. The psalmist may not have had that understanding, but he knew enough to understand that creation was evidence of a creator. Romans 1:19-22 says:  That which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools. Those who deny that creation is evidence of a creator, use futile reasoning to explain the wonder, the magnitude and the intricacy of creation. They reason that rather than God being the creator, that all that we see happened by a series of accidents. Against the very principles of the science they say they believe, they theorize that order came from disorder. They interchange the words evolution and adaptation. Romans says they are without excuse. The true reason behind their futile reasoning is that to acknowledge God means that they are subject to Him.

The psalmist says: The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much pure gold; Sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, Your servant is warned by them; In keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. Also keep Your servant back from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be innocent, And I will be blameless of great wrongdoing. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.  In John 8:31-32 Jesus says:  “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  God’s word and His ways are not limiting and restrictive, as those who oppose and deny Him believe. Instead they give liberty and freedom. In truth, it is sin that holds people in bondage. There can never be enough of a bad thing to satisfy our desire to feel good. Some will say that faith is foolishness.  Hebrews 11:6 says: Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He proves to be One who rewards those who seek Him.   1 Corinthians 1:18;21;25 says: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God… For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know Him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe… Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

 Thank You heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit. The heavens tell of the glory of God; And their expanse declares the work of Your hands. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.  Amen.
