The heavens are telling of the glory of God
Psalm19 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible
The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
And night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
Their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their
utterances to the end of the world.
In them He has placed a tent for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber;
It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
6 Its
rising is from one end of the heavens,
And its circuit to the other end of them;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the
Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the
Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings
of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great reward.
12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults.
13 Also keep back Your servant from presumptuous sins;
Let them not rule over me;
Then I will be blameless,
And I shall be acquitted of great transgression.
14 Let
the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
The psalmist says: The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. It has only been recently that scientist have verified and even recorded the truth that the psalmist declared thousands of years ago. You can hear for yourself on You tube, the actual sound of the heavens singing God’s praise and telling of His glory. When science seeks answers with a heart and mind toward truth, it will often verify what God and scripture says. Too often though science, because man foolishly says there is no God, instead attempts to discredit scripture. This flawed approach supports and attempts to prove the theories and philosophies of man. Science that promotes theory as fact, and establishes theory on theory is not true science, but rather it is science fiction.
The psalmist continues: In them (the heavens) He has placed a tent for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; It rejoices as a strong man to run his course. Its rising is from one end of the heavens, And its circuit to the other end of them; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. The psalmist may not have rightly understood that the earth revolves around the sun, but he did, even in his simplicity, recognize that the sun was greater than the earth and was established and directed by one who was greater than him. Jeremiah 31:35-37 says: Thus says the Lord, Who gives the sun for light by day And the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar; The Lord of hosts is His name: “If this fixed order departs From before Me,” declares the Lord, “Then the offspring of Israel also will cease From being a nation before Me forever.” Thus says the Lord, “If the heavens above can be measured And the foundations of the earth searched out below, Then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel For all that they have done,” declares the Lord. With all of the accumulated centuries of knowledge, science still cannot fully understand or comprehend the magnitude or the intricacy of creation. Every question that science answers, reveals more mysteries which are not understood.
The psalmist continues and concludes: The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the
soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord
is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether. They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the
honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; In keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. Also keep back Your servant from
presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me;
Then I will be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.
The Bible, which was written, interpreted and translated by man, may contain some errors and inaccuracies. These though are man’s errors, not God’s. The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of
the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. If rather than rejecting and
trying foolishly to disprove God’s word and His commandments, we will embrace them as the psalmist, we will see how precious they are. We will understand that they are for our good. The psalmist says: Keep back Your servant from presumptuous
sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be blameless. Perhaps the greatest and most presumptuous sin is to think that we know better than God; that we understand more than He does. It is presumptuous to attempt to update God’s perfect
word to bring it in to alignment with human philosophy.
Thank You heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit, that You redeemed me, through the cross, so that I could also be fully reconciled to You, Your word and Your will. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Amen.
