He has remembered His covenant forever

Psalm 105:1-15 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible

Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples.
² Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders.
³ Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.
⁴ Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
⁵ Remember His wonders which He has done,
His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth,
⁶ O seed of Abraham, His servant,
O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!
⁷ He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.

⁸ He has remembered His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a thousand generations,
⁹ The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac.
¹⁰ Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel as an everlasting covenant,
¹¹ Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the portion of your inheritance,”
¹² When they were only a few men in number,
Very few, and strangers in it.
¹³ And they wandered about from nation to nation,
From one kingdom to another people.
¹⁴ He permitted no man to oppress them,
And He reproved kings for their sakes:
¹⁵ “Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”

The psalmist says:  Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name;

Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the Lord be glad.  Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually. Remember His wonders which He has done, His marvels and the judgments uttered by His mouth.   In Exodus 33:17-23 it says:  The Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name.” Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!” And He said, “I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.” But He said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” Then the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by. Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”   Moses perhaps had as close a relationship with God as anyone recorded in the Old Testament, with the possible exception of Adam before the fall. Yet Moses could not see the face of God. Still, the psalmist exhorts us to seek the face of God. Fortunately for us, we can seek His face. Because of the cross, we can see the face of God. Sin no longer seperates us from the presence of God. In Matthew 27:50-51, when Jesus was on the cross, it says:  Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.  Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.

The psalmist says:  He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac.  Then He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant,  Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan As the portion of your inheritance,”  In Matthew 5:17-20 Jesus says:   “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”  In Luke 22:19-20, on the night that Jesus was betrayed, it says: He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.”    Jesus fulfilled the covenant of the law through His sacrifice on the cross. There is no longer a need for any other offering or sacrifice for our sins. He paid the price once for all. Jesus also fulfilled the covenant of the inheritance promised through Abraham. Our inheritance is not a piece of land. It is instead the kingdom of heaven.  Jesus fulfilled the covenants of the law and of the inheritance. We are redeemed and we enter and inherit the kingdom of heaven through Him. Still, if we do not accept the terms of His covenant, we cannot expect to receive the benefits and the promises. He fulfilled the requirements, if we do not accept His body and His blood, we forfeit the inheritance.

The psalmist says:   He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes:  “Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.”  Jesus promise to us is slightly different. He does not say we will not be oppressed. In John 16:32-33 He says:  “Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”  In Matthew 10:17-25 He says: “Beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.  But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;  for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.  And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved… A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.  It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!”  In Matthew 28:20, He says:  “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” We will not be without difficulties, trials, tribulation and even oppression and persecution, but neither will we be without His presence, His protection and provision.

Thank You heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit for all of Your covenant promises fuflilled in Christ. Thank You that I can both seek and see Your face.   Amen.
