O how I love Your law!

Psalm 119:97-112  from the daily reading in the One Year Bible

O how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
98 Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies,
For they are ever mine.
99 I have more insight than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.
100 I understand more than the aged,
Because I have observed Your precepts.
101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.
102 I have not turned aside from Your ordinances,
For You Yourself have taught me.
103 How sweet are Your words to my taste!
Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 From Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.
106 I have sworn and I will confirm it,
That I will keep Your righteous ordinances.
107 I am exceedingly afflicted;                                                              Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word.
108 O accept the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord,
And teach me Your ordinances.
109 My life is continually in my hand,
Yet I do not forget Your law.
110 The wicked have laid a snare for me,
Yet I have not gone astray from Your precepts.
111 I have inherited Your testimonies forever,
For they are the joy of my heart.
112 I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes
Forever, even to the end.

In Psalm 37:3-6 the psalmist says:  Trust in the Lord and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday.
   In today’s text from psalm 119, the psalmist takes delighting, committing and trusting the Lord even farther. He says:   O how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.    If we delight in the Lord, then we should also delight in His law and commandments. We should be faithful to meditate on His word and to do it.     Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, For they are ever mine.   Proverbs 9:10 says:  The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.   Many people fill their minds with knowledge, but they have no wisdom. If God is not part of the equation, then their knowledge is worthless. What they don’t understand, they hypothecize and theorize. Much the same as the simple equation 2+2=4, the existance of creation = there is a creator, nothing else adds up.     I have more insight than all my teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, Because I have observed Your precepts.      For us, we have the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth to teach us. In John 14:26 Jesus says:  “The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.   In John 16:13 He says:  “When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

I have restrained my feet from every evil way, That I may keep Your word. I have not turned aside from Your ordinances, For You Yourself have taught me. How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!  From Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.   The commandments of God are not restrictive and burdensome. They are good, life giving and freeing. They restrain us from evil, not good. In John 10:10 Jesus says:  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”   Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.  I have sworn and I will confirm it, That I will keep Your righteous ordinances.   1 Corinthians 10:13 saysNo temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.   God’s word will show us the way out of temptation. Philippians 4:13 says:  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  In Christ and through Christ we can not only endure, but in John 16:33 Jesus says:  “In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world,” in Him we not only endure, we overcome.

The psalmist says:  Revive me, O Lord, according to Your word. O accept the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, And teach me Your ordinances. My life is continually in my hand, Yet I do not forget Your law. The wicked have laid a snare for me, Yet I have not gone astray from Your precepts. I have inherited Your testimonies forever, For they are the joy of my heart.
I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes Forever, even to the end.
To which I say, Amen. Thank You heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit. Amen.
