How blessed are you?

Psalm 32 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible

Blessedness of Forgiveness and of Trust in God.

A Psalm of David. A Maskil.

How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered!
How blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit!

When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away
Through my groaning all day long.
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me;
My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer.[e]Selah.
I acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I did not hide;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”;
And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.
Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found;
Surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.
You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go;
I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding,
Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check,
Otherwise they will not come near to you.
10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
But he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.
11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones;
And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.

The psalmist says:  How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered! How blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit!
   1 John 1:5-10 says: God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.  1John 2:1-2 says:  If anyone sins, we have an dvocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.   That Jesus is the propitiation for our sins, means that God no longer imputes our iniquity to us. More than just covering our sin, Christ, through His sacrifice on the cross, took our sin away. In Isaiah 43:25, God speaking through the prophet says: "I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.”  We need only to not be deceived, to acknowledge and confess our sins so that we can be cleansed; walk in the light and be blessed.

The psalmist continues:  When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer.I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found.   Jeremiah 29:11-14 says:  For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will restore…   The time that we will find the Lord is the time that we seek Him with all of our heart. There must be true confession and true repentance. Far too often we are only sorry for the consequences of our sin, for how it has negatively affected us and not truly sorry for what we have done. Medical science confirms that indeed guilt and condemnation can cause physical harm to the body. Many chronic infirmities are rooted in chronic anger, bitterness, hatred and self condemnation. In John 16:8 Jesus says:  He, (the Holy Spirit) when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.  If we are convicted of sin and unrighteousness by the Holy Spirit but choose to ignore it, deceiving ourselves, it can cause physical damage to our bodies. Our bodies and our health waste away in sin. There is healing in confession, repentance and forgiveness.

The psalmist says:  You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with songs of deliverance. I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
  We often sing songs of praise and worship to the Lord. At times we shout and declare God’s deliverance in song. But do we know that God actually sings songs of deliverance to us and for us. He surrounds us with songs of deliverance.   Zephaniah 3:17 says: The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.  In John 14:26 Jesus says:  “The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”   He teaches and instructs us; counsels us in the way we should go.

The psalmist says:  Many are the sorrows of the wicked, But he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous ones; And shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.  Thank You heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit; that You guide me and teach me; that You convict me of my sin. Thank You that You have redeemed me; forgiven me, cleansed and restored me from sin. I am in awe that You sing over me. You fight for me and that You died for my sins. I am blessed. I rejoice in You. Amen.
