The more things change, the more God stays the same.
Psalm 56 from the daily reading in the One Year Bible
Supplication for Deliverance and Grateful Trust in God.
Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled upon me;
fighting all day long he oppresses
me.
2 My foes have trampled upon me all day long,
For they are many who fight proudly against me.
3 When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
In
God I have put my trust;
I shall not be afraid.
What can mere man do to me?
5 All day long they distort my words;
All their thoughts are against me for evil.
6 They attack, they lurk,
They watch my steps,
As they have waited to take my life.
7 Because of wickedness, cast them forth,
In anger put down the peoples, O God!
8 You have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?
9 Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call;
This I know, that God is for me.
10 In God, whose word I praise,
In the Lord, whose word I praise,
11 In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me?
12 Your vows are binding upon me, O God;
I will render thank offerings
to You.
13 For You have delivered my soul from death, Indeed my feet from stumbling,
So that I may walk before God In the light of the living.
The psalmist says: Be gracious to me, O God, for man has trampled upon me; fighting all day long he oppresses me. My foes have trampled upon me all day long, For they are many who fight proudly against me. Jesus says: “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.” (John 15:18-19)
The psalmist says: All day long they distort my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil. They attack, they lurk, They watch my steps, As they have waited to take my life. Jesus says: If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me. (John 15:20-21) “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. You will be hated by all because of My name” (Matthew 10:21-22)
The psalmist says: When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You. In God, whose word I praise,
In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me? Jesus says: “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace.
In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
The psalmist says: You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book? Then
my enemies will turn back in the day when I call;
This I know, that God is for me. Jesus says: Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will
fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31) Romans 8:31 says:
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
The psalmist says: In God, whose word I praise, In the Lord, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? Jesus says: “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell… “Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:28-33) Philippians 4:4-6 says: Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing
The psalmist says: Your vows are binding upon me, O God; I will render thank offerings to You.
For You have delivered my soul from death, Indeed my feet from stumbling, So that I may walk before
God In the light of the living. Jesus says: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”
(John 10:10) 2 Corinthians 1:20 says: For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us. Romans
11:33-12:2 says: Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! For who has known the
mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? Or who has first given to Him that it might be paid back to him again? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. Therefore
I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Certainly many things have changed since the psalmist wrote the psalms or even since the days that Jesus walked among men. But some things have
not changed and for that matter never will. The God of the Old Testament says: “I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.” (Jeremiah
31:3) "Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6)
“For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11) The God of the New Testament, Jesus Christ says: “If
anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.” (John 14:23) Jesus says: “I am with you always, even to the end
of the age.”(Matthew 28:20)
In Revelation 22:16-21 Jesus says: “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.
Thank You heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ and precious Holy Spirit for Your unchanging promises and Your unchanging love. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen.
