All things have been created through Him and for Him.

Colossians 1

13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

21 And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, 22 yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach— 23 if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.

Let's look again at the first couple of verses above.

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.

All things, you and I, were created through Him and for Him. There are those who doubt creation. They believe that everything occurred and occurs through a continuing series of random events. It is amazing to me that well educated intelligent people could believe and profess such foolishness. The real problem for them is that if you acknowledge that God exists then at least to some degree you become accountable to Him. That's the second part of that statement all things are created for Him. We are accountable to the God who created us.

Each one of us is created for a purpose. God knew the full purpose and plan He had for us before we were born. Look at God's words to the prophet Jeremiah. Jeremiah 1:5

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,  before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah was set apart as a prophet to the nations. Each one of us has been set apart for God's purpose and until we come into the fullness of God's purposes for our life both we and those with whom we are called to share that purpose are lacking. God has created and given a variety of spiritual gifts to people, the key is they are for His purpose. Created through Him and for Him. Paul wrote about the variety of gifts and their purpose in Ephesians 4.

11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Each one fulfilling the purpose for which they were created, so that we all attain the unity of the faith and the fullness of Christ. It is critical both for ourselves and for the body of Christ that we come into alignment with God's purpose for our lives. Think of Paul who wrote a large portion of the content of the New Testament of our Bibles. He didn't come into alignment with God's purpose easily. In fact He opposed God and persecuted the followers of Christ. Paul describes his life changing encounter with God in Acts.

14 And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew dialect, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’

That's what our life is like until we surrender to God and His purpose for us. It is a life of struggling and striving, kicking against the goads. Jesus invites us on the other hand to,

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Both illustrations, kicking against the goads and taking the yoke of Christ, are illustrations to describe how we will bear the burdens of this life and how we will walk in or opposed to the will of God and His purposes for us. As one who spent a large portion of my life trying the first way I encourage you at what ever point you are at in your life presently to opt for the second way.

Jesus is gentle, He will not force or impose His will on you. But if you have had enough of kicking against the goads then Jesus says to you today:

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

You were created for Him.
