A million dollars in just a second.

Psalm 90:1-4

God’s Eternity and Man’s Transitoriness.

A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were born
Or You gave birth to the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

You turn man back into dust
And say, “Return, O children of men.”
For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it passes by,
Or as a watch in the night.

The psalmist acknowledges one of the most difficult aspects of our ability to fully understand and comprehend God. He is eternal and infinite. Our finite minds simply can not fully grasp how big our God truly is. This short humorus account below speaks to our inability to relate to God's infinite and eternal character.

A man was praying and asked, "God, how long is a million years to you?"

God replied, "Oh, about a second."

Then the man asked, "God, how much is a million dollars to you?"

God replied, "About a penny."

So the man then asked, "Well God, may I have a penny?"

And God said, "Sure, just a second."

One of the things that unbelievers will question very often is why there is so much suffering in the world. This is an example of our inability to see things as God does. In eternity, even a lifetime of difficulty and trial is but a twinkling. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 speaks to this.

17For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The only way we can begin to see from God's perspective, to view things from His eternal point of view, is to spend time in His presence. As we spend time with God we are enveloped in His glory. What we have or what we lack becomes far less important in the light of God's glory. Unfortunately this is not something we can be taught. It's more than a decision we make, though it begins with deciding. Walking in the realities of heaven is something that will come only as we do it. As with many things with God, we must be faithful in small things in order to gain greater things.

The Holy Spirit is our key to seeing God for all that He is. Jesus shares the role of the Holy Spirit for us. John 14:16Amplified Bible (AMP)

16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever—

The Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit dwell in us. Through the indwelling Spirit of God, we can see things as God sees them.
